Maureen Denise McCormick was born on 5 August 1956, in Woodland Hills California the youngest and sole daughter of Richard McCormick and Irene McCormick. Her father worked as a teacher while her mother was a stay-at-home mother. Michael Dennis Kevin is her three elder siblings. McCormick started singing and performing from a young age. McCormick won in the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley Contest when she was just 6 years old and was then contacted through Pat Domigan, a talent agent from the Jack Wormser Agency. He was interested in her desire to be a part of the business of show production. McCormick found her first role as a major actress in 1964. McCormick was in an advertisement for Mattels' newest doll Baby Pattaburp. That same year, she was featured in another television commercial for the doll Chatty Cathy. The following year, McCormick was commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse to play the character of the character Wind It up and It breaks. The Brady Bunch McCormick auditioned for the role of the youngest daughter of the towheaded trio on The Brady Bunch.
